The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) has successfully concluded its Capacity Building and Outreach Workshop in Kigali, Rwanda. This first in-person regional peer learning activity, held from 27th to 28th July, brought together representatives from Direct Access Entities (DAEs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from countries including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity and integrity standards of GCF Accredited Entities and raise awareness of integrity issues within civil society. Co-hosted by the GCF Independent Redress Mechanism, this workshop is part of the IIU's capacity building programs and also received support from the Ministry of Environment of Rwanda.

The first day, led by the IIU, provided DAE representatives with an overview of the GCF Integrity Policy Framework and introduced the GCF Conflict of Interest and Whistleblower Protection policies.

The second day, primarily dedicated to CSOs, included a detailed session on the Policy on Prohibited Practices and an Interactive Group Exercises and Case Studies session, part of the IIU's CSO alliance initiative, where participants collectively identified common integrity risks and challenges in implementing GCF projects.

The workshop proved to be a resounding success, fostering interactive learning and knowledge sharing among participants. The IIU remains committed to its outreach efforts, ensuring all stakeholders are well-informed about GCF integrity policies and equipped to recognize and address any cases of wrongdoing.
