The Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) led a virtual session at the GCF Regional Dialogue with Eastern Europe and Central Asia on Friday, 22 March. The session, which was led by IIU Outreach & Engagement Manager Bayartsetseg Jigmiddash, covered the importance of integrity in climate finance, an introduction to the role of the IIU, and obligations of GCF Counterparties under GCF’s policies.
In attendance at the Regional Dialogue were Nationally Designated Authorities, Delivery Partners, International Accredited Entities, and Directed Access Entities from Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
In her presentation, Bayaraa highlighted that an increase in complexity of climate projects can lead to a higher risk of corruption, which has the potential to derail climate action efforts. She also emphasised key obligations of our partner institutions within the Accreditation Master Agreement, Policy on Prohibited Practices and the Policy on the Protection of Whistleblowers and Witnesses, including having downstream oversight of contractors, cooperating with the IIU in investigations, and maintaining a zero tolerance of Prohibited Practices. Participants followed up with questions about future capacity building programs and methods.
