IIU introduces its new ad interim Head, Albert Lihalakha

The Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) is delighted to announce the appointment of Albert Lihalakha as the new Ad Interim Head of the Unit. He will serve as a.i. Head of the IIU following the Board decision GCF/B.34/26, effective 01 November 2022.

Albert has over 15 years of international experience in the public and private sectors, where he has helped organisations and other stakeholders investigate and navigate crisis events. 

He has conducted, managed, and supported investigations into misconduct, fraud, corruption, and other prohibited practices. Similarly, Albert’s experience extends into regulatory sanctions, white-collar criminal and civil cases, and national security matters. He has long served to reinforce integrity values and bolster ethical practices in business conduct in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and North America.

At the GCF, Albert has been instrumental in transforming the effectiveness of investigative responses and instituting mechanisms that proactively mitigate integrity risks while supporting relevant stakeholders.
 
Before joining the Fund, Albert worked in a senior capacity at Saudi Aramco’s specialised security and investigations division in Saudi Arabia. He served as Principal Forensic Officer at the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Department of the African Development Bank in Tunisia, investigating misconduct and other sanctionable practices. In the United States, Albert assisted organisations in preventing, detecting, and responding to fraud, theft of intellectual property, and other financial crimes as the Director of Digital Investigations at a security services firm and a manager at KPMG’s Risk Consulting practice. 

He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and holds a master’s degree in International Criminal Law and Justice, and a Master of Science in Information Systems.
