During the GCF Regional Dialogue in Africa, which took place from 6-10 November 2023 in Windhoek, Republic of Namibia, the Independent Integrity Unit (IIU) led an integrity capacity building session for stakeholders.
IIU Outreach & Engagement Manager Bayartsetseg Jigmiddash gave a presentation to attending participants from National Designated Authorities, International Access Entities, Direct Access Entities, and Civil Society Organisations on the role of the IIU and importance of integrity in climate action.
In her presentation, Bayaraa highlighted that the complexity and urgency of the climate crisis means that there is a high risk of corruption, which can derail climate action efforts. She also dove into the primary responsibilities of the IIU and the various capacity building methods within the Unit. The presentation also covered some key aspects within the GCF Integrity Policy Framework, including the provisions obligations of our partner institutions to the Policy on Prohibited Practices and the Policy on the Protection of Whistleblowers and Witnesses. Finally, Bayaraa detailed the responsibilities that Accredited Entities and Delivery Partners have in cooperating with the IIU as laid out in the Accreditation Master Agreement and Readiness and Preparatory Support Framework Agreement, as well as how to report suspected violations of these policies. Participants were actively engaged during the presentation, asking questions about the GCF Integrity Policy Framework and its implementation.
